Tillage and Chemical CBSP Expands Enterprise In Masindi

Kiiza Kenneth, a 26yearold member of Kidwera 11 Youth Association in Masindi district joined the group in 2015. He was trained as a tillage service provider. He has so far trained 5 youth in proper use and handling of chemicals so they can become CBSPs. In addition, he trained 2 youth in ripping. He often works with these trainees when he gets large contracts. Kenneth hopes that he can raise sufficient manpower with his fellow youth in order to be hired by large scale famers to provide skilled labor for clearing land, planting and the management of gardens.

He used to plant maize but through exposure and peer mentoring, he now launched a banana plantation and a quarter of an acre of passion fruits. He has plans to further expand these enterprises.

Following the YETA training in agro entrepreneurship training, Kenneth got an interest free loan of 500,000 UGX (143 USD) from a community member and set up an agro chemical shop in the village in February 2017. His tillage CBSP business has taken shape earning over 700,000 UGX (200 USD) per season. From the agro input shop, Kenneth makes a minimum profit of 150,000 UGX (42.80 USD) monthly.
